How to Make a Chocolate Cake

Step-by-Step Instructions

In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
Carefully stir in boiling water. The batter will be thin.
Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.
For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
Add heavy cream and beat until smooth and spreadable.
Once cakes are cool, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
